Medicinal herbs nature trail
Löffingen - Dittishausen
"Sense and purpose of the medical herbs nature trail is, to get to know medical herbs in a natural environment, during a diversified and contemplative walk. The trail is a possibility to open humans’ eyes they not only walk on a path but they also visualise. I want to initiate to deal with herbs and to give them more attention and love. They are also part of the creation."
A statement from Peter Spiegel, healer, a passionate druggist for herbs and owner of the medical herbs shop “Heilkraeuterstueble”. By the way, he was the initiator for this trail which has finally been realised in September 1990, in cooperation with the town administration, the tourist information and the Black Forrest Association (Schwarzwaldverein e.V.) in Loeffingen. The medical herbs trail is situated in the beautiful hedge landscape, in the changeover of the Black Forrest to the Baar. It has been designed as round tour between Löffingen and Dittishausen and is accessible from both direction. More than 25 medical herbs are explained on presentation boards with pictures and texts. The interested persons will learn informative characteristics, appearance, usable parts, application and preparation of the respective plant. You are not allowed to pick herbs on this trail, because the next individual who goes by, wants to enjoy the beautiful medical plants as well.
The path has been awarded by the regional council in Freiburg. Additionally it has been presented in a Southern German TV programme. This round tour has been the godparent for further paths. In Bubenbach for example, an outlying district of Eisenbach, a georgeous medical herbs trail has been created with the support of Peter Spiegel.
